Workshop on EAC Common External Tariff 2022 Version and EAC gazette of 30th June 2022

Description

This workshop serves to update Customs Agents and Freight Logisticians regarding the EAC Common External Tariff 2022 version. The workshop will update participants on the clarification of different legal notices published in the EAC gazette of 30th June 2022. This version contains the World Customs Harmonized System 2022 amendments which are implemented by contracting parties. The amendments are in relation to among others progress made in technology within five years, implementation of international conventions, and food security. It also contains the amendments to the EAC Common External Tariff (CET) since the review started in 2016. There are harmonized system codes (tariff lines) that have been deleted, and split; tariff bands increased from 3 to 4. The EAC gazette of 30th June 2022, contains Council decisions taken during the pre-budget consultation meeting of May 2022 on import duty rates, duty remissions, and exemptions.
