A workshop on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) - Tariff liberalizations, Rules of origin, Documentation, Policy implications, Opportunities, and the role of Customs Clearing Agents in the trade agreement.

Objectives

• Overview of the AfCFTA Tariff liberalization scheme • EAC tariff liberalization offer under AfCFTA and the relation to the EAC (CET) and liberalization of trade under AfCFTA • Understanding Rules of Origin (RoO) and Tariff liberalization • Customs documents required to trade under the AfCFTA framework • Practical exercise on the use of AfCFTA customs related to documents • Comparative assessment of AfCFTA Annex 4 measure on TF vs WTO TFA • Rationalization of Kenya’s WTO TFA notifications against AfCFTA Annex 4 on TF • Policy implications of TF, RoO, and tariff linearization commitments (Opportunities and challenges/threats). • Policy positions for future stakeholder engagement in the AfCFTA framework (specifically on trade facilitation, RoO, and tariff liberalization)
